Four months before The Band retired from the road, the group played one of their final show at the Casino Arena in Asbury Park, NJ on July 20, 1976.
A fantastic performance gladly will be able to watch some more truly great artists and hear them with this black-and-white professionally-shot footage. Almost like being at the show again.
The video below is better than the Last Waltz! (which was one of their final public performances). Each member is featured equally. The group performs a cover of Marvin Gaye’s Baby, Don’t Do It, which they have recorded several times under the title “Don’t Do It.” The lead singer was Levon Helm with backing vocals by Rick Danko and Richard Manuel.
Different versions, both in the studio and live, appear on many of their albums and sets, including the Rock of Ages live release in 1972. “Don’t Do It” was the encore that The Band performed in 1976 in the Martin Scorsese concert film The Last Waltz. Below is one of their live versions of the song at the Casino Arena in Asbury Park, NJ on July 20, 1976.
