The Ozark Mountain Daredevils have been characterized as “a ragtag collection of hippies, bohemians, and musicians of no fixed ambition.” The band was, of course, indefinable in terms of music styles, composing sounds of country-rock and electric bluegrass all on the same album; writing songs both playful and dramatic, singing melodies that would give you the shivers.
Jackie Blue
“Jackie Blue” is a track recorded for their second record It’ll Shine When It Shines released in 1974. The song became the group’s second Top 40 hit.
Chicken Train
This song highlights an extraordinary instrument called by the band an “Ozark mountain mouth bow”, which involves the musician’s mouth as a resonator. The player can therefore increase the sound by adjusting the shape of his mouth.
If You Wanna Get To Heaven
“If You Wanna Get To Heaven” is a single from their 1973 self-titled album. This was the group’s debut single and also the first of their only-two Top 40 singles peaking at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, selling about 500,000 copies.
Country Girl
One of the Ozarks’ catchy as hell song with a great harmonica. This track makes the Ozark as probably the most underrated band. Randle Chowning showcasing his very unique voice on this track.
