Thanks to digital platforms, there is a lot of content made exclusively for consumption online and Tiny Desk Concerts is the perfect example.
For those unfamiliar with these concerts, Tiny Desk Concerts is a video series of artists performing live hosted by National Public Radio Music on a desk from the weekly All Songs Considered program.
The best thing about Tiny Desk Concerts is the rawness with which the guest artists perform. These concerts are a unique opportunity to explore your favorite artists and songs in a very intimate facet, impossible to appreciate otherwise. This is why we set out to select the best concerts that have been performed on the Tiny Desk Concerts.
As in so many magazine spaces, among the guests, there are the same unknown musicians —some downright bad, others who bring pleasant surprises— as well as musicians like Sting, Yo-Yo-Ma, and Cat Stevens, and groups like Coldplay, The National, and The Cranberries. The material, it is obvious, is heterogeneous. All kinds of currents, styles, and genres (rock, jazz, cumbia, hip hop, classical…), all levels of difficulty (from standardized pop to the most refined compositions, going through the experimental), many nationalities. This variety, however, knows its limits. Indie rock, Boilen’s favorite subgenre, predominates.
But, of course, one of the special moments was the Dolores O’Riordan concert at the Tiny Desk and it’s a must-see for all music loves, with her unique voice performing “Zombie.”
