Freaky Friday Classic: Geddy Lee

A Tough One!

Geddy Lee is one of the favorite bass players, and of course Rush is by far one of the most favorite rock bands! Adding vocals makes Geddy Lee a complete package. There are only a few numbers of bassists who can sing while playing the bass and Geddy Lee must have at least three brains inside his head to be able to do what he does. He’s definitely a world class bass player and ahead of his time, and he can definitely leave most bass players in the dust. But here at “Rock Pasta: Freaky Friday Classic: Geddy Lee Edition,” we acknowledge that there can be similar artists that could possibly replace him, and best him at what he does.

3. Sting

The Police bass lines are just one of the best and playing those bass lines while handling the vocals is a very difficult thing to do. You have to appreciate Sting’s bass playing not because he was the chief writer, but he was incredible writing those bass parts without overpowering other instruments. So, that said, wouldn’t you think that he could possibly replace Geddy Lee as the frontman and bass player of RUSH? He can definitely play a multitude of styles — imagine him playing “FREEWILL,” wouldn’t that be a sight?

2. Glenn Hughes

The hardworking rocker! Glenn, not just an incredible singer, but also, a bass lover – you’ll be amazed at how much he loves the bass guitar. When this guy plays, he gets you groovin’, not just on the bass, but vocals too. The man’s a bad ass he can make almost any song listenable. Glenn Hughe is like a fine wine, gets better with age. Now, what if (just what if) he replaces Geddy Lee, would it still be enjoyable to hear this man? Probably interesting to hear him play “Tom Sawyer.”

1. Chris Squire

WITHOUT A DOUBT. Chris was one of the most influential bass players of all time. He did countless of stuff that was very unusual — he loves his bass guitar and treats a wife. He can even sing crazy! Chris Squire was indeed legit! Unfortunately, Chris passed away on June 27th, 2015 because of Leukemia. (RIP Chris! – You’re Immortal now! Thank you for the unworldly music!) When YES got inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame, Geddy Lee showed people that he’s the only one who can sub for Chris. And of course, vice versa, if Chris would replace Geddy in RUSH, he’s the only one qualified for the position.
