You’ve Never Heard A Cover Like This!
With all the millions upon millions of covers of Guns N’ Roses’ 1987 megahit “Sweet Child O’ Mine” rolling around, you’d think that you’ve heard it every way it can possibly be played, right? Wrong! Making the rounds this week is a strange new cover by 15-year-old singer-songwriter Sarah Hardwig that finds the teen injecting a smoky, 1940’s jazz into it for a version of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” that’s like nothing you’ve ever heard before.
She took to YouTube last year in hopes of starring in a Postmodern Jukebox video during the karaoke outfit’s annual PMJ Search, and while she wasn’t selected, that didn’t stop Sarah; this year, she dominated at Nashville’s CMA Fest, coming one step closer to achieving her dream of being a country singer.

Fact: Sarah is sight impaired, and has been since birth. She suffers from Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis – a rare genetic eye disorder that affects 1 out of every 40,000 babies and occurs when light-gathering cells (rods and cones) of the retina do not function properly.
What sets Sarah’s cover lightyears apart from the rest of the pack isn’t just a matter of singing, but the way she translates one of the biggest rock songs of the 1980s into something that strangely but beautifully fits into an era she was born too late to experience for herself. That’s exactly what music is supposed to do – inspire, delight, and shift paradigms, and this young lady succeeded in spades.
