The song was originally written and recorded by the Oklahoma guitarist J.J. Cale. It talks about a man who roams around wherever the weather takes him, and unburdened by the weight of the world.
It’s a J.J. Cale story who fits exactly with his journey, he went out, played his music and kept things simple and staying out of the spotlight. The very concept of the song was all about simplicity and embracing it. A song that perfectly fits with Lynyrd Skynyrd, just like most of the theme of their many songs, the concept was living a simple life.

When Lynyrd Skynyrd covered Call Me The Breeze, it helped Cale financially, which allows him to release albums in a leisurely fashion without having any concern if they would become hit, potentially.
Eric Clapton was one of Cale’s key supporters, and it was his influence for recording such hits like, “Cocaine” and “Travellin’ Light.”
Sadly, Cale died in 2013 at age 74.
