Metal Generosity
In case you missed it, James Hetfield is the owner of 1,150 parcels of land in the Lucas Valley known as Luiz Ranch. Hetfield bought the ranch in 1999 and had received hate from hikers, bikers, and equestrians back in 2008 when he built a 300-foot-long 8-to 10-foot-high corrugated metal silver fence adorned with barbed wire to prevent people from going through his ranch.
Made official last Tuesday, Hetfield and his wife Francesca handed over 1,000 cares of land to the Marin Agriculture Land Trust. The sizable donation will increase the farming economy of Marin as well as help the wildlife that naturally reside in the environment thrive.
The Hetfields said in a statement,
“Our family is very happy to work with MCOSD and MALT on re-establishing agriculture and maintaining the scenic corridor of the ranch. We believe this is a huge community benefit, and one of our goals is to keep agriculture on the ranch for a very long time.”
The Hetfields will lease the land for beef cattle grazing.
