Acclaimed songwriter, producer, and musician Rupert Hine recently passed away at 72. The cause of death has yet to be revealed.

Hine had worked alongside Tina Turner, the Fixx, Thompson Twins, Bob Geldof, and Howard Jones furthering his long and diverse resume.

In a social media post, Jones referred to Hine as “an extraordinary man” and his “music mentor.”

Hine remained active as a producer during his later years — he was working at the forefront of electronic music interface integration, working with Apple on digital music software, and later creating One-Click Licence (OCL), which was the world’s first micro-licensing technology for user-generated content.

In a series of tweets, Alan Graham, the co-creator of OCL with Hine, he remembers Hine, as a “beautifully mad champion of creators.”
