This Is Tom Jones’ variety series was broadcast in the US from 1969-1971. The show caught the attention of a youth audience who were longing to see rock stars such as The Who, Joe Cocker, Donovan, and The Hollies.
Jones, at the time, was a huge star, with a number of hits from 1965’s “It’s Not Unusual” and “What’s New, Pussycat?” to 1966’s “Green, Green Grass of Home” and 1967’s “Delilah.” A 29-year-old Jones in 1969, was already at his peak.
One of the greatest parts of the show was when Jones performed alongside one of the era’s biggest names in the history of rock n’ roll.
On December 4, 1969, one of Jones’ guests on the show was none other, Janis Joplin – who both did a duet “Raise Your Hand” which Janis Joplin performed in her set at Woodstock.
Sadly, just almost a year after, Janis Joplin died at the age of 27 in October 1970. Joplin’s performance with Jones was one of his final public appearances.
