The Hall of Famer singer and songwriter, Bob Seger got his biggest #1 hit with the help from Hollywood, the lead single from the 1987 film Beverly Hills Cop II, “Shakedown.” It was only Seger’s No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Hot 100 on August 1, 1987. The film starred Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley.
The first Beverly Hills Cop movie had also a #1 soundtrack that put The Pointer Sisters in the limelight for their song “Neutron Dance” and Patti LaBelle for her “New Attitude.” In the sequel, it was Bob Seger’s time to shine, and of course, he did.
Harold Faltermeyer was the one who wrote the film, and was also responsible for Bob Seger’s biggest him, as he wrote the music for “Shakedown” with the help of Keith Forsey. Bob Seger penned the lyrics for the song relating it to Murphy’s character.
“Shakedown” was nominated for an Oscar for Best Music, Original Song, but it was Carly Simon’s “Let The River Run” from Working Girl won the award. Seger later included the song to his second Greatest Hits album in 1987.
