You’ve Been Singing These 4 Lyrics All Wrong Like a Dummy

Guilty As Charged

Not everything you hear is always right. Even if those words came out from the mouths of our favorite rock artists.

Have you ever felt guilty of butchering and then still repeating a butchered song lyric occasionally? Singing along with these songs confidently while spewing the wrong lyrics might get you laughed at by some of your friends. We’ve all been there, it’s nothing to be ashamed of. Maybe, we were just having a hearing problem then, and we tend to just sing the lyrics with our own words or of how we have heard it by our own understanding. The fact that sometimes song lyrics are not easy to remember, but we just can’t stop singing along with it because that’s how we love our music so much.

4. “Dirty Deeds (Done Dirt Cheap)” – (AC/DC)

Incorrect Lyrics:

“Dirty deeds and the thunder chief.”

Original Lyrics:

“Dirty deeds and they’re done dirt cheap.”

It’s pretty obvious that the correct lyrics are “Dirty Deed and they’re done dirt cheap” because the title of the song tells it so (without the “and they’re” part). How come we still sing it incorrectly? Well, maybe it’s just that the song’s lyrics sound like that. It makes you curious about the thunder chief and it’s even cool to sing it like that way. But still, we have to give our thanks to AC/DC, the song is so awesome. I wonder if any people who are in politics would love this song.

3. “Bad Moon Rising” – (Creedence Clearwater Revival)

Incorrect Lyrics:

“There’s a bathroom on the right.”

Original Lyrics:

“There’s a bad moon on the rise.”

This song will always be one of the best classic rock songs. Listening to this fine classic rock song can’t help but shape you as a person. The funny thing about this song is that the frontman of CCR (John Fogerty) has also played along with the incorrect lyrics of the song. He delivers the line like he is telling people the right direction for the bathroom with hand gestures also. Even maybe, he was behind the incorrect line of the song. If that was the actual lyrics of it, man, it would never make any sense. So maybe, some of you were so sure about this one and got into an argument about the lavatory’s direction.

2. “We Will Rock You” – (Queen)

Incorrect Lyrics:

“Kicking your cat all over the place”

Original Lyrics:

“Kicking your can all over the place”

Maybe we should blame the poor sound quality out of the 80’s speakers that we seem to own in our house that made us think that the lyrics were about kicking a cat and actually doing it, brutally kicking a cat all over the place doing the best we can. Poor cat… Well, somehow Queen has the most always misheard lyrics. But I guess, I don’t have to ask people why they like it singing that way because it will definitely burst us out laughing.

1. “Purple Haze” – (Jimi Hendrix)

Incorrect Lyrics:

“‘Scuse me, while I kiss this guy.”

Original Lyrics:

“‘Scuse me, while I kiss the sky.”

This one is pretty hilarious. Making us look like a dumbass while we listen to it and hearing that incorrect line. Hendrix himself liked to make some fun out of it. He often sings the incorrect line of the song on stage. There is even a website about it, KissThisGuy.com. A website for collecting stories of misheard and incorrect lyrics.  And what about the book? Have you read it? A book by Gavin Edwards “Scuse Me While I Kiss This Guy”. The book contains almost 300 lines people think they’ve heard in songs from the 1960’s to 1990’s. We can all come out of our closet and not be embarrassed about it, we can now be proud to sing the songs on how we like to sing it with authority.
